Works-in-Progress

Welcome to the Works-in-Progress (WIP) page. This is where we can post not-quite-ready-for-prime-time efforts and review any song, lyrics or whatever before releasing it to the unsuspecting public.

The WIP page has five sections:

This page was last updated on January 17, 2011.

Recent moves
We haven't really used the Works-in-Progress page in a while. The new technology and programs Richard introduced to us might soon render this page moot. Or mute. Whatever.

For the time being, we're still keeping it hidden away on our website. Perhaps, its primary purpose simply evolved to include more "storage space" for songs (or song information) not kept on the main part of the website. Whatever.

First drafts (video & audio)

  • New Year / YouTube video / Kuf in and around the Jam Station playing this Kufner classic.

  • Something in My Pants / YouTube video / John in his kitchen in Belmont, MA.

  • Big Weather Tonight / YouTube video / David in Plano, TX.

  • New Year / YouTube video / Kuf in Plano, TX.

  • Cityism / MP3 file / This is straight from John's answering machine. It's a catchy little tune, to be sure. The two Daves ran with it, making 30-second, 60-second, and 5-minute versions. Keely sounded impressed.

  • LimeriXXX / MP3 file / A drunken, spur-of-the-moment demo of an updated version of a classic drinking song, using a click track. This has been on the D8 for over a year. It's about time it got its space on the WIP page.

  • How the Devil Made Texas / MP3 file / We never really did justice to this one. Maybe it's worth reviving now?

  • My Sugar / MP3 file / John made his own "vanity tape" of this Harbaugh parody, using his own tweaked lyrics. How vain is he? This is the only studio version he has in his archives.

  • Drinks on the House Theme Song / MP3 file / An original, uptempo theme song that focuses on our "happy-hour humor" approach. Music by Harbaugh; lyrics by Harbaugh-Davenport. To hear the melody without the lyrics, click here.

  • The Magic Word / MP3 file / Cousin Betsy recorded this Davenport original at the first "Cousin's Weekend" in 2006 using only her iPod. Cool, eh?

  • Nothing But a Smile / MP3 file / John recorded this Harbaugh song on his old analog 4-track shortly after he bought it (the recorder, not the song). Just one of many old jewels in our treasure chest waiting to be polished.

  • Come a Little Closer / MP3 file / John also recorded this Kufner classic on the 4-track. You may ignore the extra verse added to fill it out a little. It's not part of the original tune.

  • The Elephant Song / MP3 file / John's very, very rough draft of David's Elephant Song using acoustic guitar, 6-string banjo, kazoo, and electronic slap bass, brass, and piano.

  • Praise Allah, I'm a Terrorist / MP3 file / Moved to WIP page per request from author, 10-21-2008.

WIP holiday tunes

  • New Year / YouTube video / Kuf in and around the Jam Station playing this Kufner classic. Removed from home page on 01-02-2011

  • New Lang Syne / MP3 file / John's new holiday parody, one of the songs listed as "nice" for the 2010 holiday week. Moved to WIP page on 01-02-2011.

  • Sick and Tired of Christmas / MP3 file / John found an older version of the two Daves singing "Merry Fucking Christmas" on the D8, and he created this "clean" version of the song. Very weak stuff, really, but at least it was something new and different for 2010. Moved to WIP page on 12-26-2010.

  • The Happy Christmas Song / MP3 file / Slightly revamped (circa 12-6-2010) for the 2010 holiday week. Originally ran on the homepage for the Christmas week '09. It's cute and corny, and it STILL needs redoing. Moved to WIP page on 12-26-2010.

  • XXXmas Medley / MP3 file / John's holiday parody for Christmas 2008, 2009 and 2010. Most recently returned to WIP page on 12-26-2010.

  • Rudolf the Censored Reindeer / MP3 file / Although this song was originally on The Dark Side of the Pub, it probably belongs here as a works-in-progress. Besides, having it here puts all our little Christmas tunes in one place. Most recently returned to WIP page on 12-26-2010.

  • The Little Bummer Boy / MP3 file / Most recently returned to WIP page on 12-26-2010.

  • Merry F***ing Xmas / MP3 file / The classic DOTH holiday song. Most recently returned to WIP page on 12-26-2010.
