New & Improved

The NEW & IMPROVED Drinks on the House includes (L-R in photo):

  • Dave Jutras (not pictured): Bass, percussion, nicotine fits

  • John Davenport (not pictured): Guitar, harmonica, editorial nitpickiness

  • David Harbaugh (not pictured): Ukulele, guitar, creative angst

  • Terry Kufner (not pictured): Six-string banjo, guitar, alphabet belching

  • Richard Leslie (not pictured): Mandolin, guitar, unjustified optimism

Two plus two (plus two)
The original incarnation of Drinks on the House included two former Pros from Dover (Terry Kufner and David Harbaugh) and two former H2O members (Larry Seidenberg-Jones and Dave Jutras). Surprisingly, these four--along with two more friends, John Davenport and Richard Leslie--first performed together in an impromptu jam session at a bachelor party a few years earlier.

Who's on first?
Members have come and gone and sometimes returned to the group, depending on their availability or mood. We released our first CD, a six-song sampler titled Meet Drinks on the House, as a trio in 2001. We thought we would give free copies to club owners and record producers, who would then rush to offer us fame and fortune.

When that didn't work, we asked John to join the group in 2006 and develop our first website. His electronic membership fit his wandering lifestyle as he and his family moved around the country (possibly to avoid creditors), but whenever he visited Texas, he performed or recorded with the group.

In 2008, Larry retired from the group and established his own online presence at reverbnation.com. Before he left, the "King of Country-Fried Guitar" added his signature licks to a new recording of Terry's song, Miserable Without You.

Terry had spent several years away from recording and performing (presumably under the guise of some sort of federal protection program) before rejoining the group in 2009. We celebrated his return at our Fan Appreciation Party. It was the first time we ever lived up to our name by providing free beer ("drinks on the house").

When Richard heard about the free beer, he made a surprise appearance at the party and joined us for a few songs on stage. The chemistry seemed just right, and in 2011 he became our newest member (who also happens to be our oldest member).

All together now
Nowadays, Drinks on the House is any combination of Dave, John, David, Terry and/or Richard performing or recording together. Although we are happy to play for our own amusement, we are eternally grateful to all our forgiving fans around the world--some of whom actually listen to our songs while sober!
